About GO
About GO
You can feel it in a photograph when the person behind the camera belonged in the room.
GO is a new publication from Think Tank Photo, made for a moment when the world is filling up with images no one actually witnessed. We are interested in the other kind: the photographs that could only be made by someone who was there, who belongs to the scene.
Each month, we publish a story from that inside vantage. It might be a piece about one of the photographers in our current documentary cohort, followed through a shoot or into their craft. It might be a photographer writing about their own scene, in their own words. Occasionally, it will be a set of images published with only the context needed to see them clearly.
Who this is for
Working photographers. Readers who understand that the technique of making a photograph is inseparable from the position of the person making it.
If what you’re looking for is gear reviews or lens comparisons, there are publications built for that. This is a different kind of thing.
About Think Tank Photo
Think Tank Photo makes bags for working photographers. GO is a new editorial project; one we’re approaching with real intention but treating as an experiment. What we already know: photography is stronger when the people making it belong in the rooms they’re shooting, and no synthetic image can replace that. What we don’t know yet: exactly what this publication becomes. That question is part of the point.
For the next several months, the eight photographers in our documentary cohort will show up here regularly. Beyond that, we’re leaving room for guest voices from further afield.
